Angelo Anastasio's 1955 dissertation on Plateau task groupings has been revised, updated, and published through Northwest Anthropological Research Notes as "The Southern Plateau: An Ecological Analysis of Intergroup Relations." The original work was intended to explore the idea that in a given area there are two kinds of interactions: one between the people and their natural environment, the type of relationship called "ecological;" and the other kind of interaction, the "intertribal" or "international" relations among the groups in the area. It became apparent that the two kinds of interaction are related, each affecting the other to form an overall areal entity. Due to the utility of the original study to scholars working in the Plateau and surrounding areas and to the growing interest in intergroup relations, the dissertation was revised and expanded (Anastasio 1972). In this revision (1985) some corrections and a few comments have been added.
